Uh, ok. You pull your boat into this concrete tub of water 32ft x 120ft. They close the gate and lift you and your boat and the water it sits in, up 65ft to the channel above. Yep how awesome is that!
Oh and they built this in 1904.

Well is this a lock? You float up to the submerged railcar in the bay, you read that right. They hands off cradle strap you from below with a few other boats, even jetskis. Then lift you out of the water and up the hill. Cross over the street and put you in the next bay over. How fricken cool is that?
